Sporting philosophy / motto "You need a lucky break, but it won't come to your doorstep. You have to be responsible and make it happen." (eqlifemag.com.au, 05 Dec 2022)
Other sports He represented Australia in eventing at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, placing 23rd in the individual competition. (SportsDeskOnline, 23 Nov 2018; smh.com.au, 28 Apr 2016)
Other information OLYMPIC AND WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS WAIT He was an eventer earlier in his career, and competed in the sport at both the 1986 World Championships in Gawler, SA, Australia, and the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. His next world championship appearance came 32 years later in 2018 in Tryon, NC, United States of America [known as the World Equestrian Games], and his second Olympic participation was 28 years after his first in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro. He was competing in jumping by this time and revealed that he had been disappointed with his first Olympic appearance in 1988 in Seoul, where he had placed 23rd in individual eventing. "On paper we were in good form [in 1988] but I took the long way through the second water [jump] and fell. That has haunted me for a while but not anymore. Age is not a factor. I am a much better rider now [in 2016] with my experience." "The people that own Fedor [one of his horses] and a few other horses for me are called Anne and Dave Quanbeck, who are from Virginia. They were the people that gave me a start in this country. In 2009, 2010, and 2011 I trained their daughter. Then they bought a mare in Germany that I jumped in and placed in numerous grand prix events, as well as winning some. I've been here for nine years [speaking in 2018]. It's hard to quantify, but it has certainly helped with opportunities I have been given and the competition opportunities that we have here in the United States." (equestrian.org.au, 27 Jun 2018) STABLES He runs Southern Cross Equestrian at Ocala Horse Properties in Florida, United States of America.
